A Man works from Sun to Sun but a Woman’s work is never done

This old saying: “A man works from sun to sun but a woman’s work is never done” has not lost its meaning into our modern days.

I know that there are many men out there who also do their fair share in helping to raise the children and by contributing to the household chores like doing laundry, cleaning the bathroom and cooking. However, (yes, there is still a but) this is still a minority, even in our day and age.

However, this is still a minority, even in our day and age.

Men are still, in most families, the main breadwinner and have also the higher income to show. This is enough reason for both genders to not question a man’s lack of contribution to a more female-oriented area, the house.

Why Women still doing more

I can not speak for all women on this planet and take their culture, religion and social status into the equation because I don’t have all the information. What I certainly can do is speak for western raised women (like myself) who should have all the advantages to have a successful career as a man does.

Unfortunately, it isn’t still that simple as it is sold to us. Most western governments have resolutions, laws and even written in their constitutions that women can’t be discriminated by their gender and their role as a woman.

Then why is it still the fact that a woman who wants to be successful has to climb up the career ladder and work for it at least 3x harder than a man?

A man will still take the liberty to come home from work and will be done, time to relax, perhaps helping with one chore around the house but will attend to something more pleasing to him soon thereafter.

I am not bashing against men. I am only pointing out the truth. A woman, when coming home from work will still work. Her work isn’t done. Looking after household chores most of the time by herself.

Cooking and cleaning still will fall into her natural role, after all, she is (still) a woman and can deal with it much better.

I could write down a 24-hour timetable if required but for now, leave it the way it is.

Are there Alternatives for Women to be Successful?

Yes, there are alternatives. When a woman wants to have it both but thinks she has to sacrifice one for the other, meaning having a successful career or being a mother but can’t be or have both.

There is certainly a way to achieve both parts successfully and being satisfactory, by working from home.

Now, I have written already an article about working from home and if you haven’t read it yet, please feel free to read here.

I also wrote a review about a platform called Wealthy Affiliate, which I am proud to be a part of, read here

I am a woman who not only wants to but need to stay at home by taking care of a loved one. Going out and joining the workforce for hours isn’t an option.

Every woman can do what I do. It is easy and I am happy I have found Wealthy Affiliate.

A woman is a natural born multitasker, there is no doubt in my mind.

Nevertheless, put your best foot forward and jump over the limitations you have given yourself or by your culture, religion, and society. You can do it.

  1. “A woman has to work twice as hard as a man to be considered half as good. Fortunately this is not difficult.”

I can’t remember who wrote this but I totally agree with it.

  2. Hi, Sylvia, This post explains very well how hard some women work. It is a true saying that a woman’s work is never done. I have worked at home, at the workplace, at church and when you have children you remain a parent for life. Taking care of grandkids and doing the whole thing all over again.

Working from home sounds great to me, I will be checking it out shortly.
Do they offer a Free Starter Program?
    Thanks for the post.

  3. thanks for sharing, it is so amazing of the amount of time that a women puts in to the family, I believe that all hard working women deserves a hand clap for how amazing they are. My Wife and Mom is just like that and I do see all of their sacrifice and am so grateful for it. Thanks for sharing this amazing post.

  4. Hey Sylvia, thanks for an informative, as well as entertaining post. It is a sad statement on how far we “have not” come in our culture, our western way of life. I am blessed to have a husband who has a totally different attitude on this issue. But I see plenty of what you have talked about here when I look around at our friends and even my children & their partners. I pray that someday this unequal, unfair disparity will change. Thanks again for a great post.

  5. During my years at work and bringing up a family at the same, I was fortunate that my husband did help much more than the majority of men help with household duties.

I do know of women who go out to work and have little or no help in the house. I really don’t know how they manage to keep going when children are involved. What with ensuring that homework is done, taking children to sporting activities, ballet lessons, music lessons, as well as providing meals, cleaning, doing laundry and hundred-and-one other tasks, and after all that to keep smiling. It is amazing. I believe it is also very bad for a women’s health to have so many demands placed on her.

No doubt, if women can find a suitable job working from home, or set up their own business at home, at the very least it would save valuable time spent travelling to work. Also, being one’s own boss and not having to answer to someone else sounds very attractive.

    1. Thank you, Valerie, for this lovely and honest statement I couldn’t agree more with what you have said.
This is why I am writing these posts and have this website to spread awareness and that there is a solution by working successfully from home. 🙂

  6. Hey Sylvia, Thank you for this great article. I couldn’t be more agreed with you and on top of that I am looking to start an online business and with all the schemes, ponsi out there, I am very scared to get involved. So can you tell me a little bit more about Wealthy Affiliate? Is this a new business? Is it like an MLM?

  7. I am a man and I agree with this statement. All kidding aside I don’t know how women do it. I see this as well. A woman comes home from work and she continues to work. I’m a single guy, that means I do everything that a wife does. Nothing is ever finished. Then add children and a husband into the fray and it’s unbelievable what you do.

I have a friend who was complaining about coming home from work and having to help around the house. His wife also worked part time outside the home. I asked him the question, “Do you love your wife?” He looked at me funny. Then I said, “Why did you marry her? Have you sat down and took note what Kristin does in a day? It isn’t about “having” to come home from work and help around the house. It’s about wanting to, because you love her in-spite of all her faults, because that’s what she did with you. This is your wife; your children; your family and they are more important than running around with me.”

So, to all the wives, I salute you!

    1. Thank you so much, Don, for your comment and statement about women working outside the home and still working when they come home.
It feels good that a man also sees the reality what’s going on. Appreciated!

  8. Thank you for this great article Sylvia, it is so true. I always say as well that when a man has a day off then it is a day off and they normally go and play golf or something like that but when a woman has a day off, she just spends it doing other jobs in the house.

I do have to say that my husband does most of the cooking in the house as he keeps telling me I cant cook lol. He does do his share of helping in the house but you have to keep asking him to do it.

I would most certainly love to be able to work from home but at the moment I cannot afford to give up my other job. That is one of the reasons I joined Wealthy Affiliate. Still waiting lol.

    1. Thanks, Cheryl for leaving a comment and sharing your insight. I agree with you too that when a man helps around the house you still have to ask for it, but it is a step in the right direction.

We women are still in double and triple commitments when working outside of the home. Therefore for me, there isn’t still no “real” equality achieved between men and women.
