A niche is a group of people looking for the same products or services they have an interest in and therefore being in the market to find the answers for what they are looking for.

Everything under the sun can be a niche, using the alphabet from A – Z, like:

A = Automotive

Z = Zucchini recipe

How do I find the right Niche?

First, you need to know about the niche you have chosen. You need to be able to know the content it represents; also to improve and widen your knowledge about.

Nothing can be more devastating when you don’t know your stuff. The audience you are targeting with your niche isn’t dumb. They will sense it right away when someone isn’t really interested in a particular niche.

So, always choose a niche you are knowledgeable about and also have a passion for it.

  1. I like your explanation of what is a niche.

    Could you elaborate a bit more about whether a chosen niche is too broad or too narrow? It’s a question I see come up from time to time.

    1. Thanks, Marion for leaving a comment and for the question.
      To choose a niche you not only need to know about it, meaning, being very proficient about it. You also need to, when applicable, about the specifics.

      I.e. just talking about “weight loss”, in general, would be the broader part of this niche “weight loss”
      To narrow this niche down you could only focus on weight loss for women and perhaps narrow down this even more by writing about weight loss for women going through menopause.
      Then, there could be weight loss for men or even weight loss for children, which we do know about is a huge health concern in our modern days. To narrow it down, even more, you could be more specific about the age groups, i.e. weight loss for children between 3-10 years and than between 11-18 years.

      As you can see there are lots and lots of possibilities to narrow down a niche. It is always up to you what you like to communicate and how specific you like to be, always research your targeted audience.

      I hope this has helped you?
      Sylvia 🙂

  2. Hey Silvia. Thanks for addressing this need. I see it crops up time and again, especially with the “newbies”. I had the same problem in trying to find the right niche when just starting and I know at the time I had no idea, or was going about it the wrong way.
    But you emphasize on narrowing your search, which I agree with you. Everything comes out clear as one progresses, thanks for the informative article.
